Hamilton Harbor Lotus Pond in Wickford, Rhode Island
Peaceful serenity at the Lotus Pond
Tucked behind the evergreens sheltering the pond from Scenic 1A, the serenity of this beautiful garden makes it easy to ignore the traffic passing by. There is a quiet darkness to the pond waters, shadowed by the glorious leaves capturing the sunlight. The backlit leaves glow a warm yellow green, contrasted by the cool blue green of the leaves in the sun. The perfect backdrop for these stunning louts blossoms.
The blossoms close slowly through the afternoon. I started my painting just after lunch, so I quickly sketched in the shapes and started blocking in the lotus blossom first. I captured the main shapes and values of all the lotus petals before starting to block in the green leaves.

Throughout the afternoon is slowly closed up. This is why capturing the values of shadow and sunlight in the initial block in was critical.
Once dry, I will frame this little painting and it will be available at Harbor View Artisans. Please stop by and visit 🙂
