Landscape painting at Fort Wetherill, Jamestown, RI

Plein air oil painting the rocky coast

I painted this on a beautiful Spring day at Fort Wetherhill in Jamestown, Rhode Island.  Fort Wetherhill was one of the few state parks open this spring with limited parking.  Fort Wetherhill is an absolutely beautiful spot to park a chair on the cliff and read a book, or set up an easel and paint! I love it in the Spring when there are less loud teenagers, less trash on the cliffs, and more quiet to enjoy the crashing waves.  This little cove is a short hike from the parking lot.

This was my original plein air painting set up, using an iPad mount on my tripod to hold the panel with my watercolor tray from Plein Air Pro.  I loved this set up except for the plastic palette.  White plastic palettes are less than ideal for oil paints, but it was what I had at the time.

Sailboats, clear turquoise water, and the sound of gentle waves lapping over the pebble beach – peaceful plein air painting.
