Plein air oil painting of Zeek's Creek from Conanicut Island Sanctuary
What a spectacular afternoon! The sky kept changing dramatically, if only my brush could keep up!
I neglected to take a picture of the wooden viewing platform that I painted this from. I absolutely love this painting location, slightly elevated and out of the breeze. The afternoon sky changed so much in the time I was there. From early afternoon red tinged clouds that reflected pink off the water, to towering storm clouds dropping in over blue skies, and finally, sunset. I tried to capture the best of it all in this painting. Not sure if I succeeded, but I had a wonderful time trying.
DIRECTIONS: Parking for Conanicut Island Sanctuary is limited to a few spots in the small lot. From Rt 138 West, take the Downtown Jamestown exit just before the Newport Bridge toll booth and the entrance is about 0.25 miles down the road on your right. If you get to the police station or golf course you have missed it.
