Another hot and sunny South County day. Perfect day for a dog walk to Narragansett Bay so our dogs can enjoy a little swimming. I was super excited to bring my oils and practice some of my recently learned on You-Tube skills painting waves. While the videos were super helpful – for instance I learned how to use a soft dry brush for blending – nothing beats a day at the beach watching waves. .
The best part of a day at beach painting is listening to the crashing waves all day. I love it!
DOWN BY THE BAY
Whale Rock Preserve is tucked away just north of Narragansett Town Beach. There is only parking for 4-5 cars, although there is a bigger lot about a quarter mile up the road by Rt 1A. The trail is perfect for family’s with pretty boardwalks, lots of shade and only a short ~2 mile out and back distance. While you won’t find wide expanses of sand, you will find tide pools, pebble beaches and no crowds.

I so enjoyed spending a few hours really focusing on the color and value structure of the waves. I felt like a made a small step forward in being able to capture the beauty of waves.
