Zeek’s Creek, Jamestown, RI

I was driving to Beavertail Lighthouse and passed by these beautiful storm clouds over the marsh leading into Narragansett Bay. I couldn’t resist trying to capture the dramatic light of the fleeting clouds. So I parked on the side of the road and found a little strip of non-squishy mud to set up my easel. Given that it was blaring hot sun, I also tried out my Best Brella for the first time. I loved having some shade on me and my painting!

Zeek’s Creek, Jamestown, R.I. – Who could not stop for this view?

The hardest part was starting… horizontal or vertical format? I usually prefer to focus on the water rather than the sky, but these puffy towering clouds were amazing. So I put a little upbeat music on my AirPods and got to work (if you happened to pass a head bobbing to the beat painter by the side of the road that was likely me). Two hours flew by… and finally thirst won out on finishing the last details of the clouds. I picked up a few steamers for dinner across the road at Zeek’s fish store and was on my way.

I put the finishing touches on the clouds when I got home while glugging (hubby’s favorite word) one of my favorite Athletic non-alcoholic beers. They taste awesome and don’t make my paint brush hand wobbly! I can’t wait to paint a studio version of this where I can spend more time on these fluffy glowing edged clouds.
